THE CYCLING CLIMBS OF EAST ANGLIA
Vicarage Hill

Difficulty: 5/5
Location: Benfleet
Length: 1.3km
Height Gain: 75m
Average gradient: 6%

Despite being in a congested and populated area, this road is relatively free of traffic and is a hugely enjoyable and fairly tough challenge. The first 600m are brutal, averaging 10% and making the next lull in gradient around a right hand bend come as a relief. The road then settles into a false flat which continues to the summit. The view to your right is as fine as any in East Anglia – you can see as far as Canvey Island. This is a great climb; it is just a shame that to get to it requires a rather unpleasant ride through Benfleet.
