Upper Green

Difficulty: 2/5

Location: Gazeley

Length: 0.4km

Height Gain: 30m

Average gradient: 8%

The road surfaces in this area are rather variable and this is particularly bad, with loose tarmac and potholes abundant.  But it is worth it for this short, but enjoyable climb.  As you drift over the undulating fields that precede it, the road up to Upper Green appears genuinely foreboding.  However, as you reach the base you discover that it isn't quite the wall it first seemed.  Nevertheless, it isn't easy either and should definitely be faced standing on your pedals.  It's close to 10% for pretty much all of it although the intimidating right-hand bend halfway up edges into 14-15%.  But alas, it doesn't last and the double figure slope is gone as quickly as it arrived.
