THE CYCLING CLIMBS OF EAST ANGLIA
Sandy Hill
Difficulty: 4/5
Location: Weybourne
Length: 1.4km
Height Gain: 69m
Average gradient: 5%
In my opinion, this is the toughest climb in Norfolk. It climbs the same ridge as Bard Hill and Beacon Hill with similar altitude gain but it features a 14% slog at the end. Leaving Weybourne the road is wide and
well-surfaced although the traffic is a little heavier here than on other routes over the ridge. The gradient is very mild for the first kilometre, averaging no more than 3%. However, this changes as you cross the steam railway. From here the road ramps up to its maximum gradient and will truly hurt.
