Old Church Hill

Difficulty: 5/5

Location: Langdon Hills

Length: 1.1km

Height Gain: 81m

Average gradient: 7%

Unsurprisingly, this is a popular route for cyclists; I saw 3 others when I visited.  It is 600m shorter than the busier South Hill but gains nearly the same altitude, so was naturally going to be tough.  The gradient begins very gently and ends at nearly 20% but the transition is so smooth that it would be barely noticeable, were it not for the fact that you keep having to change gear every 300m.  The road surface is terrible and made worse by the fact that you can't see it as there is an unbroken tunnel of trees shading the road from base to summit.  This is without doubt one of the finest climbs East Anglia has to offer.
