THE CYCLING CLIMBS OF EAST ANGLIA
North Hill

Difficulty: 5/5
Location: Little Baddow
Length: 1.7km
Height Gain: 87m
Average gradient: 5%

Arguably the most famous climb in Essex, you will undoubtedly meet fellow cyclists on this hill as it is the only genuine challenge for miles. Cross the River Chelmer to start and climb steadily into Little Baddow, the gradient increasing slowly. It then eases towards the centre of the village. Recover here and prepare to work. From nowhere, a tough right-hand turn hits you at over 10% and continues out of Little Baddow, steepening further. This section is tough and should put the average rider into the red.
To finish you off, the slope eases off painstakingly slowly – by the time you reach the plateau at the top, you'll feel you've just conquered an actual hill!
