THE CYCLING CLIMBS OF EAST ANGLIA
Moulton Hill
Difficulty: 3/5
Location: Moulton
Length: 1.4km
Height Gain: 54m
Average gradient: 4%
This is a cruel slog by Suffolk standards which delivers you from the Kennett valley onto the rolling gallops south of Newmarket. The gradient out of Moulton is gentle at first but gradually steepens as you climb until you begin to feel the need to drop down a gear or two. With nowhere to recover, the road now rears up in front of you, dead straight and painfully steep. This should prompt you to get out of the saddle and push for 300m. The road then eases off to around 2-3% but for some reason, you never feel you can quite recover until it entirely levels out besides the entrance to a paddock.
