Len's Path

Difficulty: 3/5

Location: Linton, Duxford

Length: 2.7km

Height Gain: 64m

Average gradient: 2%

A genuine challenge for cyclists in South Cambridgeshire, Len's Path is worth braving the considerable traffic to complete.  Leave the A1307 at the junction for Saffron Walden and pass Linton Zoological Gardens on a barely noticeable slope.  Entering Essex, past some moss-covered stone walling and round a 90-degree bend, the gradient becomes suddenly apparent.  Push on through Hadstock and begin clicking down the gears because round a second 90-degree bend, the road ramps skywards, almost 10%.  This section is tough on the legs, particularly since they've been softened up for almost 2km.  As the slope eases off in the last 200m, the countryside opens up and you can see for miles in all directions.
