Belton's Hill

Difficulty: 4/5

Location: Spaldwick

Length: 2.0km

Height Gain: 35m

Average gradient: 2%

This is really an amalgamation of two climbs with a brief descent between them.  The first is a surprisingly steep slope, 16% at its maximum, and will force you down into a crawler gear.  Don't make my mistake of underestimating its gradient, selecting an unsuitable gear and nearly falling off with the effort!  After cresting this first minute of pain, enjoy the gentle descent and prepare your legs.  The second half is longer at approximately 800m.  At 7% maximum, it is no match for the earlier challenge but by now your legs will be full of lactic acid.  Press on through the fields until you reach the little village of Barham.
